Culture abounds at Rock Lodge! Our members, visitors, and guests bring a wealth of talent in music, theater, literature, and art that we share in several annual events.
Classical Music Concert
For several years, our annual classical music concerts have featured talented professional and amateur musicians, both members and guests. The instrumental and vocal pieces have represented a range of musical genres from baroque to opera to Scott Joplin. Join us as we gather around our magnificent concert grand!
Here's what we heard in 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014, 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018, and 2019.
Short Story Dramatic Readings
The Mighty Rock Lodge Players are a group of elite performers who bring to life wonderful short stories in dramatic readings. Some selections are familiar, others more obscure, and some are unpublished works by unknown authors. But the readings are sometimes gripping, often rib-tickling, and always plenty of fun. It's a wonderful evening of theater, camaraderie and great food and drink. Be sure to include it in your plans to visit the club.
Here are the readings from 2008, 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014, 2015, 2016, 2017, and 2019.
Talent Show
"Rock Lodge's Got Talent!" Every year, we put on our own version of "America's Got Talent". Our members, visitors, and guests regale each other with singing, dancing, musical performances, jokes, story-telling, poetry raves, and even Broadway Revues in full makeup and costumes. One year, a performer did a hilarious "reverse striptease", going from nude to fully-dressed! Other members have composed original Rock Lodge songs. Age is no barrier! One year's show featured acts by 5-year olds and octogenarians.
These were the performances in 2010, 2012, 2014, 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018, and 2019.
Literary Evening: Book Reviews and Discussion
"What's that you're reading?" "Found a good book lately?" "Hey, when you're done with that, can I borrow it?" These are commonly heard questions at Rock Lodge. It seems that when not swimming or playing tennis or walking around the lake, many folks love to sit back in our comfy Adirondack chairs with a good read. Once each year, our Cultural Committee selects one book as the opening subject of our annual Book Discussion. In addition, each attendee is invited to bring an additional selection or two to review for the group. Visitors and guests are always welcome to join in the discussion and the coffee and deserts that follow.
Here's what we read in 2009, 2010, 2012, 2013, 2014, 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018, and 2019.
